Wind Lion God

@Wind Lion God, integration of the brave image of Lion and the divinity of Wind God, is guarding the lands of Kinmen. The war chaos in late Ming and Qing dynasties made Kinmen greenness into sandy land. Further, without the block of high mountains, the flying sands also caused damages to this place. To resist strong winds, the custom of making statue in the image of Lion from Zhangzhou and Quanzhou was brought into. The statues are erected outside the village, facing northeastern or north to where the winds come from; the rituals of lighting incense praying the wind lion god to cease strong winds are held; and the natives also dedicate red robes in return as thankfulness. Up till now, more than 70 statues were standing or erecting around the villages or the residences; no matter a lively gesture of stone carving or a modesty look of wood carving, the Wind Lion God statue is guarding this land with different looks and became an unique attraction for Kinmen.
